Conventional Morality
Age: Junior high to high school.
Stage 3--Good Interpersonal Relationships
Children make decisions based on what will please others, especially those with status (Teachers, popular peers, etc.) they are concerned about maintaining relationships through trust, loyalty, and sharing, and take others' perspectives into account when making decisions.
Stage 4--Maintaining the Social Order
Children look to society for guidelines of what is right and wrong. They know rules are needed to keep society running smoothly and believe it's their role to obey them. However, they believe the rules are forever rigid, and they don't recognize that the rules can be changed to match society's needs. For example, people in a conventional state of mind would want Heinz to go to prison if he steals the drug, because they want to strictly follow the laws set for society.
